Between 2010 and 2025, a new generation was born, and unlike any other before them, they will attend higher learning institutions between 2025 and 2040. This means that unlike their parents and even grandparents, the learning institutions will have to plan for a complete makeover of everything that concerns the auxiliary features of schooling. 

The importance of artificial intelligence (AI), automations, and hyper-connectivity in business is already enormous, but one needs to account with the fact that hyper connectivity will bring forward a new generation of “Zoomers” that are more active and aware of the needs of work, education, and schools. Immersive learning that is focused on careers is a must.

They will be getting schooling from platforms powered by artificial intelligence, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR) at every lick and inch of their life. Learning institutions of higher education will be forced to endeavor into the platforms and bring these technologies to the market, allowing for learning environments to be formed based on the student requirements and capabilities. Instead of attempting to engage students with endless lectures, the education will focus around immersive simulations, game based learning, and AI powered tutors that are far more effective and engaging than listening to a textbook.

Education does not come without some form of payment, and as such, life competencies that students are taught while attending class ready them to commence working without the years of boot camp on their bodies will arise. Students micro-credentials, stackable learning, and models of life- long learning will become ubiquitous due to the fact that people will be required to constantly improve their skills with the speed in which the economy and technology changes.

Generation Alpha is deeply aware of global challenges such as climate change and ethical AI. Universities will need to embed sustainability practices and responsible technology use into their curriculums. Campuses will become greener, courses will focus on environmental responsibility, and ethical AI training will be a priority.

Hybrid learning blending online and in-person education will be the norm. Additionally, global collaboration will rise, with students engaging in international virtual classrooms, gaining cross-cultural competencies essential for a borderless workforce. Higher education must evolve rapidly to meet the expectations of Generation Alpha. Institutions that embrace innovation will thrive, while those resistant to change may struggle to remain relevant in the coming decades.
